Revolution or No Revolution w Joe Roberts and Rodger Moran (Interview #35 and Red Reviews #9)

Hey everyone, I’m happy to once again bring you another complete episode of The Mind of a Skeptical Leftist. I have another great interview for you. This time I’m talking to Rodger Moran and Joe Roberts from New Left Radio which is a show they run in association with the Democratic Socialists of Canada. As usual if you want the full interview then you can find the slightly longer version by becoming a patron, or you can email me at mindofaskepticalleftist@gmail.com to tell me you want a copy of the audio or a link to the video. This time around on Ask an Anarchist I’m going to address one of the questions I got on Tiktok. Then we’ve got the tenth installment of Red Reviews and we talk about Michael Parenti’s book, Black Shirts and Reds, and then you get another Anarchist Reading Corner where I read an excerpt from the book The Anarchist Turn.

For the intro this episode I don’t think I have much to say but I do want to say thanks to everyone who listens or watches this show. I’ve been podcasting for most of the last 9 years and this particular project is just over a year old and is gaining viewers and listeners faster than any of my previous work. It could always be better though and that happens when you share new videos or episodes on social media, or when you comment and like them on youtube. So please always do that. You can also ensure my time spent on this project by becoming a patron at patreon.com/skepticalleftist or you can send a one time donation at buymeacoffee.com/skepticallefty. I have a thank you this episode for Kim who increased her pledge. Thank you very much Kim.

I’d also like to mention that I’m going to add my Calendly link to my linktree and if you want to be a guest on the show all you have to do is book a date and time from my available dates. I do have to reserve the right to cancel any booked interviews though.

I guess before I send you into the interview I should say that there are obvious differences between my opinions on some things and Rodger and Joe’s opinions and that’s fine. I know a lot of folks don’t really believe in the idea of left unity and while I have some limits I kind of do believe in it. I think we can create a broad left movement and sometimes we’re going to have friends and allies who have different philosophical tendencies. I’m less of an incrementalist than Rodger and Joe and obviously I’m an anarchist and I’m more of a revolutionary but I like their takes and I hear their views here and they make good points even if we disagree on some things. One of the reasons that I think anarchism is the best left philosophy is because it can incorporate arguments for and against revolution or general strikes or incremental change and it can take the best of them all and use them to remove the state and create a true democracy of the masses.

I’m open to criticisms of this interview because I know that some of my listeners are not of the same mind as Rodger and Joe on a variety of subjects but I want you to take what they say in good faith because I really think that regardless of which leftist tendency you belong to or identify with there is a lot we can learn from each other.

With that said, I’ll send you over to the interview
